The upcoming season will feature a 90-game schedule, with the league All-Star festivities to be held from June 17-19 in Monclova. Last year, the teams only played a 66-game regular-season schedule and there was no All-Star Game due to COVID-19. The 2022 regular season will end on Sunday, August 7.
Like this past season, six teams from each division will advance to the playoffs based on winning percentage.
“I appreciate the encouragement and collaboration of all the presidents to define the key dates for the 2022 season in order to have adequate planning that will benefit us all -- fans, television stations and sponsors,” LMB executive president Horacio de la Vega Flores said in a release.
With the new season vastly approaching, the Tecolotes Dos Laredos aim to get back to the playoffs, something it hasn’t done since 2018.aside">
The Tecos missed the postseason last year as it experienced up-and-down play, which resulted in a 30-36 overall record, second worst in the Northern Division and fifth worst overall. However, despite the subpar performance, the Tecolotes were two games back of the sixth and final playoff spot in their division.
The two-nation organization will likely target pitching talent this offseason, as it believes that’s what held it back this past year. The Tecolotes’ starting pitching rotation finished with a collective 6.02 ERA, finishing 15th out of 18 teams during the regular season. And starting pitching is key in the Mexican League as that’s what helped Tijuana lift the 2021 title.
The Tecos will likely announce signings for the 2022 season sometime starting in late December.
